Advice on organising a themed wedding

Every happy couple wants their wedding to be remembered as a unique occasion, engaging guests in a pleasant, convivial atmosphere that reflects the personality of those who seal their love on that day.

One way of producing an epic “wow” effect is to organise a themed wedding, starting with a premise: we have to underline that, when organising a wedding, close attention must be paid to many details in every single “macro area”.

If the bride and groom wish to give their day a theme, which is very different from a style, the event will certainly be more complex to organise: it’s a matter of designing a wedding that represents the couple in all aspects, giving free rein to imagination and creativity!

Before we continue, we should clarify the difference between  style and theme:

  • When we talk about the style of an event, we refer to what we want to transmit in terms of sensations and atmosphere to our guests. So we refer to a style that is green, boho, elegant, romantic and so on, in line with the personality of the bride and groom.

  • On the other hand, when we talk of theme we refer to a specific topic, which might be a film, a book, an object, a historical era, so something that acts as a leitmotif for the whole ceremony, influencing the choice of flowers, music, outfits and furnishings. Of course, we must not forget that, when chosen, the wedding theme must be desired by both bride and groom, reflecting the personal tastes of them both.

What better example than Melania and Michele’s wedding in July 2024?

A fantastic couple, a fantastic mix of personalities and interests, sharing a great – indeed huge – passion: Lord of the Rings.

Let’s see, step by step, how this themed wedding was organised, making the event unforgettable for everyone:

  • Everything was planned down to the finest detail: the ceremony was celebrated in the oak wood, with floral decorations by the floral designer Serena Poletti who made everyone dream with the colours and compositions!

  • Aperitifs and dinner beneath the pine trees, with a table over 30 metres long decorated with flowers and candles running from white to purple, marvellous lighting by David Bargagna, creating the enchanted atmosphere of Lothlórien, realm of the elves, during the meal.

  • Like the rest of the event, the menu was an ode to originality, and the guests were extremely surprised and delighted by the choice the happy couple made.

  • The cake was cut beneath the antique cast iron gazebo, decorated for the occasion with columns of flowers and magical lights, reminiscent of swarms of fireflies.

  • And to end, everyone danced to the wonderful music of Folk Irish Popcorn, instantly carrying the couple and their guests to the Inn of the Prancing Pony.

  • As explained earlier, the outfit strictly matched the theme: the bride wore wonderful decorations above her ears, a reference to elf ears, of which similar models were offered to the guests, who had fun wearing them. The dress chosen was perfect for the theme and the bride’s personality, flowing with a gracefully pinned veil to create a fairy-tale image. Far from clichéd, the groom wore a fantastic Scottish tartan suit with a waistcoat. He wouldn’t have looked out of place at the coronation of the King of Gondor!

  • The marriage tableau copied the atmosphere of the Fellowship of the Ring: a fan of 5 swords with embellished grips holding scrolls indicated the place of each guest. Ah! The wedding favours: craft beers with labels customised with a photo of the bride and groom transformed into elves!

They couldn’t have created a more incredible sensation!

Don’t be put off if you want to arrange a themed wedding, be stubborn and make it the day you always dreamed of!
